Did you like the podcast? Why or why not?
I liked the podcast. I found it both informative and thought provoking. I think the journalist did a great job with the opening episode as it leaves the audience wanting to hear more. If anything, my only critique is that the episode was a bit long. I wish it had been a little bit shorter as I found myself starting to get distracted towards the end of the podcast. What do you think of the idea of presenting investigative journalism in this format?
I think this is a very great format to present this investigative journalism. Being able to hear the voices of the people
interviewed and the narration adds a depth that one wouldn’t get just reading the text on paper.
The addition of music really helps add to the story and paint the picture for the scene. How do you think the victim's family might feel about the fact that Serial has become such a popular podcast?
I think the family of the victim might feel negatively about the popularity of the podcast. On one hand, it could feel like a good thing that the podcast gained popularity and people are interested in hearing your story. On the other hand, it could feel painful to hear details rehashed and to hear people’s commentaries on the subject.Do you like listening to a text like this or would you prefer reading? What are the benefits/drawbacks to each?
I prefer to listen to texts like this, I find them easier to follow than if I was reading in a blog or article,\
especially based on the length. I find that my comprehension level is higher when
listening to a text, rather than reading it.Koenig opens the podcast by discussing the challenges of memory. How well do you think you would be able to remember the events of a given day? What issues or concerns does this raise for you about the rest of the podcast?
I think it’s very important to realize the challenges of memory, and I’m glad Keonig brings it up. I don’t think I would be able to remember the events of a given day. I can hardly remember what I had for lunch yesterday! This raises concerns for me that for some of the people interviewed, their timelines might be a little bit fuzzy and may be lacking in some details.
